How to pick a random number
- Set the range. Enter the lowest and highest numbers in the Number range box. Leave the step at 1 to include every whole number.
- Fill the wheel. Press Put these numbers on the wheel. The numbers also appear in the list below, where you can delete any you don’t want.
- Spin. The wheel lands on one number and shows it in large type. Spin again for another.
Ranges, steps and limits
- Negative numbers work: −10 to 10 gives 21 segments, including zero.
- The step skips numbers. A range of 0 to 100 with a step of 5 gives 0, 5, 10 and so on up to 100.
- Up to 1,000 numbers fit on one wheel. For a bigger range, increase the step or split the range across several spins.
- Whole numbers only. For decimals, type them into the list yourself, one per line.
With around 100 or more numbers, the labels get small. On very full wheels they’re hidden, and the number under the pointer is shown below the wheel as it spins.
Picking numbers without repeats
Turn on Remove the winner after each spin in the Customize tab, or press Remove from wheel after a spin. Each number then comes up only once, which works for calling bingo-style numbers, drawing raffle tickets among friends or working through numbered questions in random order. Your spin history in the Results tab keeps a record of every number drawn.
When a wheel beats a plain number generator
A text box that prints a number is quick, but a wheel lets everyone in the room watch the draw happen. That makes it a good fit for classrooms, game nights and live streams, where people want to see the result arrive rather than take your word for it.
- Dice replacement
- Lost the dice? Use the 1–6 sample, or 1–20 for tabletop games.
- Classroom practice
- Pick a question number, a page to read, or the numbers for a mental-math problem.
- Friendly draws
- Give each person a number and spin to pick a winner. For official prize draws, check the rules where you live.
- Choosing from a numbered list
- Number your to-do list, book pile or recipe collection and let the wheel choose.
Questions and answers
How do I stop numbers from repeating?
Turn on Remove the winner after each spin in the Customize tab. Each number you land on is taken off the wheel until you reset or undo.
What is the largest range I can use?
A wheel holds up to 1,000 numbers, and each number can be between −1,000,000,000 and 1,000,000,000. Use a larger step to cover a wide range with fewer segments.
Can I use decimals?
The range tool uses whole numbers. You can type decimal numbers into the list by hand, one per line.
Is every number equally likely?
Yes. Each number has its own equal segment, and the result is picked with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator.
Can I pick several numbers at once?
Spin once for each number you need. Turn on winner removal if the numbers must all be different.
